Qatari Foreign Ministry: slim prospects for Israel-Hamas agreement
Qatar's Foreign Ministry has stated that it is actively working towards achieving a long-term truce between Israel and Hamas. However, it emphasized the considerable challenges surrounding the situation.
To recap, the United States, with Qatar and Egypt mediating, has been pursuing a six-week truce and the exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners to prevent Israeli troops from entering Rafah.
Despite intensive negotiations held before the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, the talks collapsed due to Hamas' insistence on a complete withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip and an end to the hostilities.
