Hamas Politburo leader to head to Iran for negotiations

The head of Hamas' Politburo, Ismail Haniyeh, who is based in Qatar, will fly to Iran on March 26 for negotiations with representatives of the ayatollah regime.

Iranian media report that he will specifically meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian. A press conference is expected following the negotiations.

The visit occurs amidst the breakdown of the next round of negotiations between Hamas and Israel and a serious crisis in relations between Israel and the United States. The Americans did not exercise their veto power, and the UN Security Council adopted a resolution in which the return of prisoners is not linked to the truce.
