UN Human Rights Council rapporteur accuses Israel of genocide
Francesca Albanese, Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in the Palestinian territories for the UN Human Rights Council, presented a report accusing Israel of genocide against the Palestinian people.
"The extensive military operation in the Gaza Strip and the forced living conditions in intolerable circumstances suggest an intent to physically destroy Palestinians as a group," said the Italian human rights activist.
She asserts that Israel's actions exhibit three of the five indicators of genocide: killing members of the group, inflicting physical and mental harm on them, and rendering living conditions unendurable by destroying infrastructure.
Albanese accepts Hamas' claim that the IDF has killed over 30,000 people, with 70% of them being women and children. She cites 70,000 wounded and alleges that Israel subjects captured adults and children to torture.
Officially, Israel has rejected the special rapporteur's accusations, denouncing them as a gross distortion of reality.
