Around midnight, Syrian news websites reported explosions in Damascus.
The London-based monitoring group, The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), said an explosion occurred in the Sha'alan district of the capital.
The cause is unknown. Ambulances and rescue services headed to the scene of the explosion.
Later, Syrian media stated that a criminal incident caused the explosion, not a military attack. Apparently, it was a grenade explosion.
