Al Jazeera: Iranian strike on Israel aimed at preventing escalation
Al-Jazeera quotes experts who suggest that the Iranian strike on Israel was primarily aimed at propaganda. They believe that the strike's intensity and methods were chosen to avoid escalation.
Nishank Motwani from the Center for Policy Research in Washington remarked, "Iran seems to have wanted to showcase its various capabilities to Israel while also preventing a larger conflict. However, they refrained from involving Lebanese Hezbollah and avoided targeting Israeli interests abroad."
Mehran Kamrava, a professor at Georgetown University's Qatar department, commented, "Iran succeeded in saving face—this action was driven by both internal Iranian public opinion and pressure from the 'axis of resistance' coalition."
The expert described the strike on Israel as measured, but predicted that it would likely result in new Western sanctions against Iran.
