WSJ: Half of the Iranian ballistic missiles used against Israel malfunctioned
The Wall Street Journal reports, citing two U.S. officials, that about half of the ballistic missiles launched from Iran against Israel either failed to launch, malfunctioned during flight or failed to reach their intended trajectory.
In total, approximately 170 drones, 120 ballistic missiles, and around 30 cruise missiles were launched.
The WSJ notes that the failure of the Iranian attack is not only attributed to the superiority of the Israeli Air Force and missile defense systems but also to the success of the coalition formed by the United States, Israel, the United Kingdom, and Jordan.
Key events included Israel's transfer into the area of responsibility of the U.S. Central Command and the Abraham Accords, which led to the normalization of Israel's relations with the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.
Another factor was Iran's failure to achieve a strategic surprise. Iran notified its neighbors of the impending attack 72 hours in advance, hoping the information would be relayed to the United States. Slow-flying drones were also deployed.
