IAEA: Iran temporarily closes nuclear facilities after attack on Israel
Iran has temporarily shuttered its nuclear facilities "for security reasons" following a significant missile and drone strike on Israel Sunday night. This announcement came from Rafael Grossi, the head of the UN International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
During a UN Security Council meeting, Grossi addressed concerns regarding the possibility of Israel targeting an Iranian nuclear site in retaliation for an unprecedented attack launched from Iranian soil.
"We are always mindful of this possibility," Grossi stated. "I can confirm that Iranian authorities have informed our inspectors that all nuclear facilities we regularly inspect were closed on Sunday for security reasons."
Grossi further noted that while nuclear facilities reopened on Monday, he instructed inspectors to resume their work on Tuesday, hoping that the escalating tensions between Israel and Iran would not disrupt their activities.
