At least 18 people have died in Oman due to floods triggered by heavy rains in the Arabian Peninsula. The downpours, which started on the night of April 16, also caused flooding in the United Arab Emirates.
In response, educational institutions in the UAE were shut down, and wherever feasible, public sector employees were transitioned to remote work. The inclement weather also disrupted transportation networks, including air travel.
Just this morning, Dubai received 30 mm of rainfall. Compounding the issue is the lack of a drainage system in the desert nation, leading to water pooling on roadways.
