Turkey urges UN to protest against US veto on Palestinian membership

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has urged members of the UN Security Council to collectively address the US veto on recognizing Palestine as a full member of the UN.

The discussion regarding the Palestinian Authority's bid for full membership occurred on April 18. Among the 15 countries, 12 voted in favor, with the UK and Switzerland abstaining.

The United States, however, exercised its veto power to block the resolution.

To attain full member status, the Palestinian Authority needed support from at least 9 of the 15 UN Security Council members, without any veto-wielding countries (USA, UK, France, Russia, and China) intervening.
