Centcom confirms Houthi attack: UAV, missile fired at Gulf of Aden targets
The US Army Central Command (Centcom) has reported that Iranian-backed Houthi militants launched three kamikaze drones and an anti-ship ballistic missile at targets in the Gulf of Aden late on May 6 and early on May 7.
Fortunately, no warships or civilian vessels sustained damage in this attack.
Of the two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) deployed, one was successfully intercepted, while the other crashed into the sea. Moreover, the missile, apparently, failed to strike its intended target.
In response to the incident, Centcom stated, "These weapons have been identified as posing an imminent threat to both merchant and U.S. Navy vessels. Our actions are geared towards safeguarding freedom of navigation and bolstering the security of international waters for both the U.S. Navy and merchant vessels."
