Hamas delegation departs Cairo, affirming readiness for agreement unfavorable to Israel

Hamas' delegation has departed from Cairo, where consultations on a settlement in the Gaza Strip are ongoing, and is en route to the capital of Qatar, Doha.

Hamas' Palestinian Information Center quoted Izzat al-Risheq, a member of Hamas' Politburo, saying, "Hamas reaffirms its position and commitment to the agreement presented by the mediators," following this round of consultations.

However, al-Risheq also noted that the IDF's actions in Gaza, including the capture of the Rafah checkpoint, are obstructing the efforts of the mediators and fueling escalation in the region.

It's important to highlight that Hamas expresses readiness for an agreement that may not align with Israel's interests.

On May 6, 2024, the IDF initiated a ground operation in Rafah, seizing control of the Rafah checkpoint and the Philadelphia Axis on the border with Egypt.
