The League of Arab States summit commenced in Manama. The previous summit was held in November 2023, during which the league condemned "Israel’s barbaric actions in the Gaza Strip."
Opening today's meeting, King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa called for a peace conference on Middle East settlement and voiced support for recognizing a Palestinian state, advocating for its UN entry.
Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud also endorsed the establishment of an internationally recognized Palestinian state, urging the international community to support efforts for a ceasefire to halt aggression against Palestinian civilians.
Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas criticized Hamas for providing Israel with "a pretext for aggression against Palestine". He attributed the failure of negotiations to bridge the divide to Hamas and urged Arab countries to provide financial aid to the PA.
