Iranian TV announces discovery of Raisi's helicopter; rescuers deny it
Iranian state television announced that rescuers had found the missing helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.
However, shortly afterward, representatives of the Red Crescent involved in the rescue operation reported that the helicopter had not yet been found, but that “rescuers were approaching the site of the alleged crash.”
The Red Crescent also stated that the number of rapid response units operating in the crash zone had increased from 46 to 65.
Earlier, EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Janez Lenarčić reported that Iranian authorities had requested assistance from European countries to locate the helicopter. Satellites from the Copernicus remote sensing program were utilized.
