Amnesty International published a report showing a significant increase in the number of executions. According to the data, 1,153 people were executed in 2023, a 30% increase from the previous year.

Executions were carried out in 16 countries, with the Islamic Republic of Iran accounting for 74% of the total. More than half of Iran's executions were related to drug trafficking. Saudi Arabia ranked second, with 15% of the total executions.

“We do not have data about China, where this is a state secret. But as far as we can tell, thousands of people are executed there every year, making them the leading country in executions. There is also no data on Vietnam and North Korea,” Amnesty International stated.
