The UN's senior coordinator for humanitarian affairs and reconstruction in Gaza Sigrid Kaag reported that the total number of refugees in the Strip has reached 1.9 million people, with one million of them losing their homes for the second time since the war began.
"The Palestinian residents of Gaza are enduring immense suffering. I am deeply concerned by reports that residents of Khan Younis and surrounding areas have been ordered to evacuate," she stated at a UN Security Council meeting.
She noted that Gaza is not receiving sufficient humanitarian aid, with the situation being particularly dire in the southern part of the sector. The international official called for the urgent opening of the Rafah crossing.
