The Iranian government has declared a period of national mourning from July 31 to August 2 in response to the death of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh. He was killed by Israel in Tehran on the night of July 31. The announcement includes condolences to the Palestinian people.
"Avenging Haniyeh's blood is our duty, as he achieved martyrdom on Iranian soil. The terrorist Zionist regime killed a guest in our home. We will harshly punish the Zionists," said Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
"I express my condolences to all Muslims of the world, the resistance front, the brave and proud Palestinian people, the relatives and friends of the martyr Haniyeh, and one of his companions who achieved martyrdom with him," Khamenei said.
