Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, who is mediating talks between Israel and Qatar, expressed doubts about the prospects of reaching an agreement following the elimination of Ismail Haniyeh.
"How can mediation succeed if one side kills the negotiator of the other side? Serious partners are needed for peace. The international community must oppose such disdain for human life," he said.
The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs described Haniyeh's elimination as a threatening example of aggression, a violation of international law, and a threat to regional stability. Official Baghdad accused Israel of violating state sovereignty.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called for intervention from the United Nations Security Council. "The fact that the killing occurred while negotiations were at an impasse complicates the situation," the statement read.
