In a scene filled with smiles, tears of joy, and heartfelt embraces, approximately 120 soldiers from Indiana’s prestigious 252nd Support Maintenance Company were welcomed back to their homeland after a brave 10-month deployment in the Middle East. As the soldiers stepped off the plane in Indianapolis, they were greeted by overwhelming cheers from the Indiana National Guard leadership, their families, and jubilant friends.

Duty Bound: The Journey Overseas

The 252nd Support Maintenance Company, based at Stout Field, embarked on this overseas mission as part of the U.S. Central Command campaigns, notably involving Operation Spartan Shield and Operation Inherent Resolve. Throughout their deployment, these courageous soldiers diligently worked on more than 46,000 hours of maintenance, which included addressing over 7,200 work orders on a wide array of equipment and weapon systems. “We did an outstanding job, everybody did an outstanding job,” stated 1st Sgt. David Tallent, who led the team with unwavering dedication.

A Warm Welcome Home

The homecoming was an emotional symphony of laughter and relief, as loved ones reunited in heartfelt embraces. Among the welcomed heroes was Staff Sgt. Zachary Mally from Greencastle, who held his children tightly, symbolizing the touching reunion of many families disrupted by the soldier’s righteous call of duty. Capt. Joshua Frees from Carmel also returned home, embodying the strong spirit and resilient heart that defines the Indiana National Guard. Capt. Frees, along with his fellow soldiers, was personally greeted by Indiana National Guard leadership, exchanging handshakes and gratitude for their commendable service and sacrifice.
