The final list of nominees to the 96th Academy Awards have been announced today in Beverly Hills, California. The Israeli animated short film “Letter to a Pig” has been nominated for an Academy Award in the animated film category.
The film tells the story of a young schoolgirl who reads a letter written by a Holocaust survivor to the pig that saved him. The schoolgirl has a dream in which she must live through the trauma of the Holocaust and reevaluate her own identity. The film utilizes a unique technique that combines drawing, photography, video, painting, and animation. “Letter to a Pig” was recognized as the best animated short film at the Kuandu Festival in Taiwan.
Israel's presence in the Oscars race is noteworthy with Guy Nattivs' 'Golda' nomination. This historical drama delves into the pivotal role of Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir during the Yom Kippur War. The film's excellence in Makeup and Hairstyling has earned it a nomination, adding to Israel's representation at the Oscars.
The most nominated films this year are Christopher Nolan's biopic "Oppenheimer" (13 nominations), Yorgos Lanthimos' "Poor Things" (11), and Martin Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon."
Meanwhile, Greta Gerwig's "Barbie," which competed with "Oppenheimer" for the audience and awarded attention throughout last year, has eight nominations.
The Oscars ceremony is set to air on March 10.
