“Arts Across Disciplines” serves as a gateway to a world where brainwave monitors become canvases, and botanical studies inspire breathtaking installations. According to McMaster University, students embark on this creative odyssey through lectures, dynamic group presentations, and hands-on projects that explore intersections of microbiology, physics, geoscience, medicine, and botany, ultimately enriching their artistic and scientific perspectives.

Second-year iArts student Nayeli Redican paints a vivid picture of how this course liberates participants from the intimidation of dense scientific theory. “Before they find their niche, many artists in science fields don’t have science degrees or strong science backgrounds at all. Science feels less daunting, and we’re encouraged to harness these sciences creatively,” Redican shares, reflecting on the unconventional beauty of learning at McMaster.

Professor Swintak explains that imagination is the core linking thread of these two disciplines. She observes that a significant part of scientific advancement begins with a conceptual breakthrough, much like how artistic endeavors originate from a stroke of creativity.
