Pope Francis and Holocaust filmmakers to receive 'Cinema for Peace' award

Pope Francis, the head of the Roman Catholic Church, along with Hillary Clinton, former UN chief Ban Ki-moon, and filmmakers dedicated to defending the Jewish community and commemorating the Holocaust and the events of October 7, will be honored at the upcoming Cinema for Peace gala ceremony in Berlin on February 19.

Established in 2008 by the foundation of the same name, the Cinema for Peace Prize aims to promote social and political change through film. This year's nominees include Jonathan Glazer's "The Zone of Interest," Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer," Greta Gerwig's "Barbie," and Martin Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon."

While Pope Francis will participate in the Cinema for Peace awards ceremony online, Hillary Clinton and Ban Ki-moon will attend the event in person in Berlin. They will receive the award from actress Sharon Stone, Ukrainian human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Oleksandra Matviichuk, and Irish performer and political activist Bob Geldof.

Other notable guests expected at the ceremony include Helen Mirren, Nastassja Kinski, Ben Becker, and former Russian Channel One employee Marina Ovsyannikova, who gained fame for her protest against Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
