According to The Washington Post, the US administration and several allied Middle Eastern states are collaborating on a detailed plan for a lasting resolution between Israel and the Palestinians. This plan will outline a timeline for the establishment of a Palestinian state.
The proposal is tied to a long-term ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages held by Hamas. The ceasefire is anticipated to last six weeks and aims to be in place before the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, starting on March 10.
Reportedly, the plan entails evacuating the majority of settlements, establishing a Palestinian state with its capital in Jerusalem, and rebuilding Gaza. Israel would be offered normalized relations with the Arab world, primarily with Saudi Arabia, along with security guarantees.
The acceptance of this offer by Israel remains uncertain. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in an interview with ABC, sought clarification on what constitutes a Palestinian state.
"Will they have their own army? Will they continue teaching children about terror? In that case, we will say no. The key point is that Israel must retain security control west of the Jordan River," Netanyahu stated.
