Yulia Navalnaya, the widow of the killed Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, asked the European Union's Foreign Affairs Council not to recognize the results of the March Russian presidential election.

A president who assassinated his main political opponent cannot be legitimate by definition," Navalnaya said.

In her appeal, Yulia Navalnaya also urged European politicians to strengthen sanctions against Russian officials and not to persecute Russians fleeing from the war.

Earlier today, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed Navalnaya's accusations against Putin as "baseless" and "rude."
