Guy Nattiv's Golda wins the Cinema for Peace prize
Berlin-based Cinema for Peace Foundation presented Guy Nattiv's movie, Golda, starring Helen Mirren as Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir, with its Most Valuable Film of the Year award at a gala fundraiser in Berlin earlier this week.
The Cinema for Peace Foundation supports film-based projects dealing with global humanitarian and environmental issues.
Golda shared the prize with two other recent films that deal with issues connected to human rights and war: James Hawes' One Life and Jonathan Glazer's The Zone of Interest.
Golda depicts the events of the Yom Kippur War. The sudden Hamas attack on Israel makes the questions raised in the film highly relevant.
One Life tells the story of Sir Nicholas Winton (played by Anthony Hopkins), a British entrepreneur who rescued more than 600 Jewish children from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia.
Zone of Interest is an eerie look at the daily life of German Nazi commandant Rudolf Höss and his family in a new home right next to the German Auschwitz concentration camp.
