British-Australian actress Miriam Margolyes posted a video on the Jewish Council of Australia website urging Jews to demand a ceasefire in Gaza to halt the violence and to advocate for the release of hostages.
In the video, the actress expresses her dismay over Israel's handling of the conflict in Gaza, stating that it makes her "ashamed of Israel."
She goes on to say, "To me, this is akin to a victory for Hitler. He turned us Jews from being compassionate and caring to this vicious, genocidal nationalist nation, persecuting and killing women and children."
Margolyes added that she doesn't understand why all Jews, especially believers, aren't calling for an immediate end to the violence. She also condemned Hamas' actions on October 7th.
Best known for her role as Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter film series, Margolyes was among 150 Jewish cultural figures who signed an open letter in support of director Jonathan Glazer.
The letter stated, "We reject the false choice between the safety of Jews and the freedom of Palestinians. We stand with those who demand a permanent ceasefire, the safe return of hostages, immediate delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, and an end to Israeli bombings and the blockade of Gaza."
