In an op-ed for The Wall Street Journal, President Joe Biden called on Congress to immediately pass military aid for Ukraine and Israel.
Biden begins his article by mentioning the recent escalation of attacks on both Israel and Ukraine. "Both Ukraine and Israel defended themselves against these attacks, holding the line and protecting their citizens. And both did it with critical help from the US. Now is not the time to abandon our friends," he writes.
The President urged lawmakers to pass urgent national-security legislation for "desperately needed humanitarian aid for Palestinians in Gaza."
In the article, Biden explains that in the cases of Ukraine and Israel, assistance is better provided now than being drawn into larger military conflicts later. He says If Russia triumphs, Putin's forces will move closer than ever to our North Atlantic Treaty Organization allies.
He also says that if Russia invades a NATO ally, the US will come to its aid. Biden believes a similar situation is unfolding with Israel.
"Likewise, if Iran succeeds in significantly escalating its assault on Israel, the US could be drawn in. Israel is our strongest partner in the Middle East," Biden writes.
