Poll: Majority of Americans oppose immediate ceasefire in Gaza
A strong majority of Americans support Israel's fight against Hamas. This support remains high despite pro-Palestinian demonstrations taking place at American universities. These are the findings of a survey conducted by The Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll.
According to the poll, 80% of respondents stated they support Israel in the current conflict, while only 20% support Hamas. Support for the Jewish state is stronger among older age groups, with 90% of Americans over 55 expressing support for Israel. However, even among respondents aged 18-24, only 57% stated they support Israel.
61% of respondents stated that a ceasefire will only be possible when Hamas returns kidnapped individuals and relinquishes power in Gaza. 39% support an immediate ceasefire. Age also plays a role in this perspective: among respondents aged 18-24, 67% support an immediate end of the war.
The poll was conducted on April 24-25, with 1961 registered voters participating. The margin of error is 2%.
