Brazil flood leaves nearly 100 dead
In the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, at least 90 people have perished, and over 100 individuals remain unaccounted for following extensive flooding. The state capital, Porto Alegre, finds itself isolated, with the city's airport submerged and roads impassable.
Approximately 90,000 residents have been displaced from their homes, with 16,000 of them finding temporary refuge in shelters, primarily established in schools and sports facilities. Communication networks are down, leaving around 800,000 state residents without access to clean water.
As of the morning of May 8, the affected regions have been inundated with 150 millimeters of rainfall. The military has been mobilized to provide aid to the impacted areas.
