French police on Friday killed an armed man who was trying to set fire to a synagogue in the northern city of Rouen.
Firefighters who arrived at the scene extinguished the blaze.
According to reports in French media, the man "was armed with a knife and an iron bar." He was neutralized when he tried to approach the police.
A police source said the attacker was not immediately identified.
