Amal Clooney advised ICC on charges against Netanyahu
Amal Clooney, a British lawyer of Lebanese origin and the wife of actor George Clooney, played a significant role in preparing the International Criminal Court to issue arrest warrants for Israeli politicians and Hamas leaders.
According to a statement quoted by The Guardian newspaper, Clooney stated, "More than four months ago, the ICC prosecutor asked me for help in assessing suspicions of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Israel and Gaza. I agreed to join an international group of experts dealing with this issue."
Clooney emphasized that the experts unanimously concluded: "Acts committed in Palestine, as well as those committed by Palestinians, fall under the jurisdiction of the court. There is reason to believe that Hamas leaders Yahya Sinwar, Mohammed Deif, and Ismail Haniyeh committed war crimes and crimes against humanity."
She accused both Netanyahu and Gallant of war crimes and crimes against humanity as well.
Amal Clooney is recognized as one of the world's leading experts in the field of human rights. Alongside her husband, she established the Clooney Justice Fund, which fights against human rights violations. She has represented victims of the Islamic State in trials where the group was found guilty of genocide.
Recalling recent events, ICC Chief Prosecutor, Karim Ahmad Khan, stated that he had requested the issuance of arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, Hamas' political leader Ismail Haniyeh, and Hamas's military wing leader Mohammed Deif.
