On Monday, May 27, Canadian authorities announced their readiness to issue 5,000 visas to residents of the Gaza Strip who have relatives in Canada.

Immigration Canada had previously announced in December that 1,000 Palestinians with immediate family members who are citizens or permanent residents of Canada would be able to stay in the country for three years. This program is designed to ensure their safety during the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.

Immigration Minister Mark Miller stated that there has been significant interest in the program. "Although leaving Gaza is currently impossible, the situation could change at any time. By increasing the limit on the number of visas intended for Gazans, we will be ready to help more people," he said.
