Labor deputy leader vows to recognize Palestinian state
Deputy Chair of the British Labour Party, Angela Rayner, stated at a meeting with Muslim voters that she is committed to doing everything in her power to improve the situation in the Gaza Strip. Labour is seeking to regain Muslim support, which has waned due to the party's solidarity with Israel.
"I know people are furious about what is happening in the Middle East. If I knew that my resignation would bring peace, I would do it immediately. I am working around the clock to ensure that three British doctors can return from Gaza so that help can get there," she said, according to The Telegraph.
Rayner recalled that Labour, unlike the Conservatives, supported the International Criminal Court prosecutor's decision to request arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and three Hamas leaders.
She added that the party is working with Saudi Arabia and Qatar to assist the Palestinians and promised to recognize a Palestinian state if Labour wins the next election.
Polls predict Labour will win the early elections on July 4. However, municipal elections indicated that the party is losing support from Muslim voters.
