Palestinian Authority recognizes ICJ jurisdiction with declaration submission
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) announced that the Palestinian Authority has accepted its jurisdiction over proceedings under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
According to a press release from the ICJ, Palestine submitted documents on May 31 in compliance with a UN Security Council resolution. The Palestinian Authority acceded to the genocide convention on April 2, 2014.
The press release notes that under UN Security Council Resolution 9 (1946), the ICJ is open to any non-party state that deposits a declaration of acceptance of the court's jurisdiction with the Secretary.
It is important to note that this document refers to the Palestinian Authority as the state of "Palestine."
