Slovenian Parliament recognizes 'Independent Palestine'
On June 4, the Slovenian parliament recognized the "independent state of Palestine". This decision was supported by 52 of the 53 deputies from the ruling coalition who were present. No representatives of the opposition attended the meeting.
With this move, Slovenia became the 147th UN member state and the tenth EU country to recognize Palestine.
In late May, the Slovenian government backed the proposal to recognize a Palestinian state and requested parliamentary approval for this decision.
