San Francisco set to host Jewish Film Festival
The San Francisco Jewish Film Festival is scheduled to run from July 18 to August 4. While the full program won't be unveiled until mid-June, a sneak peek of some world premieres has emerged.
Notably, director and actor Peter Wack's film "www.rachelormont.com," tells the story of Rachel, unwittingly trapped while promoting her favorite pop star, Mami 6.0, in an advertising agency.
Another eagerly awaited premiere is the documentary "Thorah Tropical," directed by Jimmy Ferguson, Ezra Axelrod, and Gloria Nancy Monslave. This film chronicles the journey of an Orthodox Jewish family from Colombia striving to immigrate to Israel amidst their homeland's drug cartel turmoil. Additionally, "Nobody Wants to Talk About Jacob Applebaum," directed by Jamie Kastner, sheds light on journalist and hacker Jacob Applebaum, an associate of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, labeled "the most dangerous man in cyberspace" in the film's press release.
This year's festival, as articulated by Jewish Film Institute executive director Lexi Leban, aims to offer "unexpected and surprising images of Jews on screen," countering the mainstream's neglect of Jewish diversity and complexity.
