According to sources in Hamas cited by the Ash-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper, only a few individuals within the Islamic Resistance Movement know the current whereabouts of Yahya Sinwar, the head of Hamas in Gaza.
The sources confirmed that Sinwar is constantly updated on ongoing events, particularly negotiations and that he "studies each initiative presented, examines it carefully, expresses his opinion, and consults with movement leaders through various means of communication."
These Hamas sources also claim that Sinwar has communicated with the movement's leaders abroad multiple times, especially during critical moments in recent negotiations. Notably, he contacted Hamas Politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh after the IDF killed the sons of a Hamas leader.
The sources state that "a very small circle, no more than two or three people, know his whereabouts and provide for his various needs, as well as ensure his contact with the leaders of the movement inside and outside."
The publication notes that in almost nine months of war, Israeli special services and the army have failed to locate and eliminate or detain many Hamas leaders of the first and second rank, although some were killed or wounded. Sinwar, however, remains unharmed.
