Macron refuses Prime Minister Attal’s Resignation

French President Emmanuel Macron has refused to accept the resignation of Prime Minister Gabriel Attal. The head of state urged the prime minister to remain in office to ensure stability.

Attal leads the pro-presidential Ensemble list, which secured second place in the recent parliamentary elections in France. A few months ago, the 34-year-old politician became the youngest prime minister in the country's history.

Traditionally, the president appoints the government formation to the leader of the party that wins the elections. However, this time, the first place was taken by the alliance of left and far-left parties, the New Popular Front, which has not yet put forward a candidate for the prime minister's position.

Before the elections, Macron stated that Ensemble would not form a coalition with the far-left movement La France Insoumise, part of the New Popular Front.
