Anne Frank statue vandalized with "Gaza" in Amsterdam
A statue of Anne Frank, the Jewish girl from Amsterdam who symbolizes the Holocaust, was vandalized in Amsterdam with the word "Gaza" in red on its base. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
Mayor Femke Halsema strongly condemned the vandalism, urging witnesses to contact the police. "Anne Frank, brutally murdered by the Nazis at 15, reminds us to remain humane even in the toughest times. Vandalizing the statue doesn't help any Palestinian," she stated.
Bookseller Gert-Jan Jimink, who initiated the monument 20 years ago, criticized the city for rejecting his request to install CCTV cameras. "The monument commemorates the 14,000 Jews who lived here and were killed. It's unrelated to current events," he emphasized.
