Biden reveals Saudi proposal: Recognition of Israel in exchange for defense and nuclear plant
US President Joe Biden revealed that Saudi leadership approached him with a proposal to recognize Israel in exchange for defense guarantees and approval to build a peaceful nuclear power plant in the kingdom.
"They sought assurances that the US would provide them with weapons if they faced aggression from an Arab nation or another neighbor," Biden shared on "360 with Speedy," specifically referencing Iran as the potential adversary.
Biden also mentioned that Saudi Arabia expressed willingness for American specialists to oversee the nuclear facility, believing it would deter Iranian aggression.
Previously, Saudi Arabia insisted on progress toward a Palestinian state before normalizing relations with Israel, a condition Biden did not emphasize in his statement, amid ongoing preparations for the November 2024 US presidential election, which may stall further normalization efforts between the two countries.
