Iran has requested an emergency UN Security Council meeting following the assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh and the killing of Hezbollah's "chief of staff" in Beirut.
The request was sent to the Security Council chairman, currently Russia. According to the Security Council website, the meeting will be held on the evening of July 31 to discuss the Middle East situation.
Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dmitry Polyansky confirmed on his Telegram channel that the meeting will take place. "At the request of Iran, supported by China, Algeria, and Russia, our presidency has scheduled an extraordinary UN Security Council meeting regarding the assassination of Hamas Politburo Chief I. Haniyeh in Tehran for 4:00 p.m. New York time on July 31," he wrote.
